postheadericon Abusing the Power of the Pen

Every writer knows the pen is a powerful force. You are able to persuade readers with the words you create with a simple pen. If a company has unsavory practices, all it takes sometimes is a well written review. Many people underestimate just how powerful a pen can be with a strong willed writer behind it. As cliche as it may sound, the pen can be used for good and bad. If you plan to become a well respected writer, you must use the power of the pen responsibly. However, there are many writers that take advantage of the power of the pen and use it for less than respectable acts.

Although it is rare, I have ran across a few people throughout my career that use their abilities as a writer to spread lies and write less than respectable content. Their reasons for justifying their actions for creating the harsh content is that they are just giving the readers what they want. This may be true, but there are moral values at stake.

Sure, people like to read about scandals and the poor behavior of others. But is it your responsibility to report it? How does it affect you personally by spreading other's dirty laundry? Put yourself in the shoes of others before you write negatively about others and their lives. And most importantly of all, don't use the power of the pen to spread lies. Writing about this filth lowers your professionalism and yourself as a writer. Writers that choose to use the pen for bad content make it quite obvious they lack moral decency as a human.

While it may be tempting to write the trashy content readers are intrigued by, think about your personal character first. Put yourself in someone else's shoes for a bit. How would you feel if someone wrote untrue filth about you, your family, or your situation?

Yes, the pen is a mighty force and if you are planning to become one of those great writers, who becomes a household name, make sure you are remembered and known for creating great content. Promote your character and decency as a human by keeping your moral values in mind.

While I have written a review or two that were not exactly positive, I have never written lies or broadcasted any one's dirty laundry. And, I never will. In my opinion, writers who choose to do this have a hollow soul and are rather shallow in nature.

Bottom line, use the words you create wisely and responsibly! And, always fact check first for the absolute truth!

Happy Writing!
